Nick Pollard: The Sunbury & Shepperton History Society
In the latest podcast episode, local historian Nick Pollard takes us on a journey along Shepperton’s waterways - from the mighty Thames to the easily missed River Ash. He shares how these rivers shaped where the village began, why the Queen Mary Reservoir was built a century ago, and even how a crocodile once escaped from D’Oyly Carte Island. Nick’s passion for local history is clear: if you want to understand Shepperton, start by following the water.
Ricky Wallis: Volunteer Chair of the Patient Participation Group (Upper Halliford Medical Centre)
At Upper Halliford Medical Centre, a small volunteer group is quietly making a big difference. Chair of the Patient Participation Group, Ricky Wallis, explained how their meet-and-greet sessions connect patients and the practice, helping feedback flow both ways. From building links with local pharmacies to inviting the MP to see their progress, Ricky shows how a handful of volunteers can improve healthcare for everyone.
