Three things that catch people out

You have to prove you live in Surrey. Every Surrey recycling centre runs a resident scheme, so take something with your name and address on it.
Vans, pickups and trailers need a permit. If your permit does not have the vehicle registration on it, take proof that you live in Surrey, plus your hire documents if it is a hire vehicle.
You cannot walk in. Pedestrians are not allowed on site for safety reasons, so you need to arrive in a vehicle.

What it costs

Ordinary household waste is free. Some non-household materials, things like rubble, soil and plasterboard, are classed as chargeable waste. The council publishes the current charges and the full list of what each centre will and will not take, and that list does change, so it is worth a look before you load the car.

Shepperton is one of the permit sites

Only nine of Surrey's fifteen recycling centres take vans, pickups and trailers on a permit. Shepperton is one of them, along with Camberley, Earlswood, Epsom, Guildford, Leatherhead, Lyne, Witley and Woking. If you are hiring a van for a clearance, that is worth knowing before you book.
