💬 Sheppertonian Seven

Getting to know the people of Shepperton, seven questions at a time.
This week: Gareth Davies, founder and creative producer of The Sheppertonian.

Who are you and what is your connection to Shepperton?
I’m Gareth, and live and work in Shepperton. I founded The Sheppertonian in late 2024 to shine a light on the many community groups and local voices in the area and to keep the Shepperton community connected to itself.

How did you end up in the area?
My wife and I were renting in Hampton Wick and moved to Shepperton in 2015 after buying the house we now live in. We’d tirelessly looked at houses all over the place for what seemed like forever, but the moment we set foot in our house we knew we were home.

What's the best thing about living or working here?
Through The Sheppertonian I have met so many wonderful people who are part of community groups, charities and businesses in the area. On a personal level, that sense of community has been the best thing about starting The Sheppertonian. The area is packed full of the nicest people doing such a wide variety of things, I feel truly lucky to be here - oh, and despite the moans about temporary traffic lights, it’s an area full of natural beauty, something I'm reminded of as I stroll around.

Tell us something about yourself we wouldn't guess from meeting you.
You may know that my day job has been a composer for TV and other media since 2011. I’ve written the scores to close to 200 animated episodes, and my music continues to be played in all sorts of programming around the world. You may not know that before that I was a Key Stage 1 teacher.

Your favourite spot in Shepperton, and why?
There are so many, but for me it has to be the area around Shepperton Lock. There’s nothing like being next to water to disengage the brain and decompress. Steve the lock keeper informed me in his podcast episode that the lock is the most southerly point on the Thames, so the sunsets are 🤌.

Best-kept local secret, a place, a walk, or a dish?
There are so many trails tucked away in Shepperton…out the back of Manor Park, Studios Walk, and along the river path by the lock are all fantastic, especially if you have a dog to walk like me.

"For me, Shepperton is..."
...very simply, home.
